Abstract

When addressing the issue of higher education in Colombia, there are investigations that show high delays in terms of full access, this is due to multiple reasons, this can cause, among other things, a low level of income due to the low qualification that In this sense, the present article studies the gender wage gap in the city of Pasto, for which the main results of a study focused on variables such as income, occupation and educational level of the heads of household, based on the data obtained through a quantitative order methodology, together with a probabilistic, random, stratified and multi-stage sampling, and the application of 382 surveys, the research was carried out through a theoretical and empirical analysis for modeling of the Mincer equation, the elaboration of discrete choice models (Probit) and the obtaining of the Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition. It was concluded that there is a negative probability for women to have an equal or higher remuneration than men, even if they have a similar or higher educational level, which makes visible the wage and labor gap in the city; as well as the importance and influence of higher education on their level of monthly income, since the higher the level of schooling, the better the salary situation is achieved.
