Abstract

Innovation is recognized as the engine that drives the transformation of organizations regardless of their nature, with the aim of making them more efficient and competitive. This article comes from a research work, whose objective was to determine the implementation of innovation activities and the result of these efforts in micro, small, medium and large companies in the municipality of Yopal for the period 2014-2019. The research had a quantitative approach, descriptive scope and a cross section methodology; an instrument developed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) was used to obtain information from the sample of 674 companies. The main results were: companies implemented innovation strategies, more frequently, five years ago (2015) just when the oil crisis was generated, which directly affected the local economy that depended on this sector. Likewise, the staff training has been the most used innovation activity, reflected in the improvement of processes and the positive evolution of sales. Finally, companies indicate little support from external actors in their innovation efforts.
