Abstract

Innovation emerges as a strategy implemented or adopted by smart organizations seeking to mitigate the challenges presented daily by the movements of international markets that impact domestic economies. Therefore, in times of pandemic, the employer/employee duo is forced to propose partial or definitive solutions to managerial/social situations in pursuit of a better situation. The purpose of this research was to analyze the link between innovation, resilience, and business sustainability to reveal factors that contribute to shaping sustainable management in Colombian SMEs. The methodology used is analytical-explanatory, field-based, transactional. A theoretical screening of the study variables was conducted in high-impact journals. Data were obtained through the administration of a Likert-type questionnaire. The sample consisted of managers of fuel marketing companies located in the Colombian-Venezuelan border area; this information was collected through structured interviews with those responsible for management. The results demonstrate a specific statistical symmetry between the variables of innovation, resilience, and business sustainability. Among the primary findings, it is highlighted that the observed SMEs exhibit moderate resilience and innovation capabilities that must be strengthened to achieve business sustainability. Due to the relationship between these factors, companies in times of transition must ultimately employ proactive, rather than reactive, management that builds an integrative strategy that considers stakeholders.
