Abstract
This article presents the results of the research study "Business Economic Situation of the Primary Sector in the Municipality of Pasto Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic in the Year 2023," which aimed to analyze the effects of the pandemic on small family producers in the agricultural sector. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive and cross-sectional design, a structured survey was administered to 370 producers, allowing for the assessment of variables such as capital needs, land size, number of employees, production levels, participation in international trade, and financial situation.
The results show that 36.2% of farmers faced financial constraints, 97.6% experienced disruptions in the supply chain, and 25.4% reported a significant decrease in production. The main challenges identified include lack of financing, increased logistical costs, shortage of inputs, and job losses. Although some businesses implemented adaptive strategies such as digitalization and productive diversification, many still face difficulties related to liquidity and sustainability.
The analysis was based on Duchek’s (2020) theory of organizational resilience, which made
it possible to identify producers’ capabilities for anticipation, adaptation, and learning in response to the crisis. The study recommends facilitating access to credit, promoting technological innovation, and strengthening inter-business cooperation. This research provides empirical evidence for designing resilient strategies to ensure the viability of the agricultural sector in the face of future crises.
