Perception and observation of the environment: investigation of the olympic legacy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: For many urban managers, the insertion of Major Urban Projects -MUPs- allied to planning strategies tends to strengthen the local development of cities. In the case of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, strategic plans were implemented in the city to promote changes in the mobility, security and housing sectors. The city came to be analyzed from different points of view: as a promising place for the promotion of effective urban guidelines and as a way to highlight social distinction based on socio-spatial segregation. Objective: To analyze whether the transformations of urban areas in the city of Rio de Janeiro have contributed to improve mobility, safety and housing, or to intensify socio-spatial segregation. Methodology: Semi-structured interviews with technicians and residents close to the intervention in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park. Conclusions: There is a need to promote the participatory and effective inclusion of the population in the structural decisions of the city.
