Abstract

The improvement in the evocation of stimuli that have emotional content compared to neutral ones is known as the emotional memory enhancement (EME). There is controversy regarding the presence of EME in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Objective: The objective is to critically review the studies published on EME in MCI in order to analyze whether this effect is preserved in this population. A bibliographic search was carried out through the PubMed database where original articles on EME in MCI were examined. The following terms were used and cross-referenced for the search: “emotional”, “memory”, “enhancement”, “MCI” and “mild cognitive impairment”. Results: 2718 articles were obtained. Using the inclusion criteria, 16 were selected. Conclusion: After reviewing the selected articles, it could be stated that the effect of improving emotions on memory seems to be present in MCI for stimuli with emotional content of positive and negative valence compared to neutral ones, whether they are words or pictures.
