Abstract

Introduction: The university has the responsibility of developing an educational program consistent with social and labor demands, whose acquired competencies are evidenced during professional practice. Objective: to evaluate the perception of graduates and employers on the achievement of the graduation profile of seven professional careers of the Faculty of Education of a Peruvian university, considering the approach of the theory of human capital. Methodology: two instruments were applied to evaluate generic and specific competences: (1) a questionnaire of 25 items for 92 graduates, (Cronbach's α = 0.925); and (2) a questionnaire of 7 items to 24 employers (Cronbach's α = 0.901), selected intentionally, not probabilistically. The data were analyzed together and cohorts of promotions 2012-2015, 2016-2018 and 2019. Results and disussion: A general achievement of the generic and specific competences of the graduation profile was determined at the “very good” level (from 40 to 60%). Ethics and citizenship competencies were better perceived by graduates, while critical thinking was better valued by employers. Axiological specific competence was perceived as best achieved by both groups. There were no significant differences between cohorts. Conclusions: graduates and employers perceive the achievement of the graduation profile as "very good", facilitating their insertion into the labor market. In this area, they highlighted the competences of ethics and critical thinking.
