Abstract

This study seeks to design and develop a psycho-metric analysis of a test to assess talent in teen-age students from 13 to 16 years old. The instru-ment was developed according to the approach of Gagné, Heller and De Zubiría, which are current theories in this field. It consists of 26 items that evaluate three indicators of talent: outstanding performance, interest, and dedication, in addition to their general orientation field: praxis, psycho-logical, conceptual or artistic. For its validation, a sample of 300 students from three schools in the city of Bogota of three different social strata was selected for convenience. This was a descrip-tive study ofinstrumental kind with psychometric applications; the data resulting from it was ana-lyzed from the framework of classical tests theo-ry. Results indicated acceptable levels of internal consistency and validity, and a factorial structure congruent with the reference framework; concluding that the test meets the psychometric requirements demanded for this type of instrument, hence, constituting a useful tool for talent identification in schools.
