Impact of research within the process of professional training

Abstract
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are called to educate competent professionals capable of transforming society with innovative and feasible ideas that adjust to an uncertain and changing environment in a way that satisfies the needs, promoting participation and favoring social equity. In this context, the present review article aims to provide an overview of the importance of the research process in Higher Education Institutions, through the description of the types of research, indicators and methodologies for the measurement of social impact. The presented information was extracted from published documents between 2003 and 2018, which highlights the influence of research, development and innovation in the invigoration of scientific, economic and social growth of any country.
