Abstract

Introduction: The current university, with social commitment, has the obligation to direct its formative work, subjects with a reasoning that allows them to function and face with different scenarios in their context; Therefore, the objective of this work is analyze the level of critical thinking, from the perspective of substantive and dialogical dimensions, in undergraduate students of a public Mexican university. Methodology: Research with a quantitative-descriptive approach with a sample of 378 students, data collection and analysis is done with the application of the Critical Thinking Questionnaire (CPC 2), valuing each of the dimensions that make it up. Results and discussion: The results pass a test reliability (a = 0.94); likewise, differences in the mean value in each dimension were identified among the students depending on the semester they are studying and their educational program. It is identified in students of initial semesters and some careers, shortcomings in the dialogical and substantive dimensions of reading, where these decrease as they study advanced semesters. Conclusion: It is evident that the university considers the development of specific skills to strengthen critical thinking in students, essential to face and solve the problems of a changing and globalized world.
