Design and implementation of an educational resource of the different network topologies

Abstract
This article presents the design and implementation of an interactive educational resource for teaching star and ring network topologies using Arduino UNO microcontrollers, LEDs, push buttons, and low-cost electronic components. The proposal emerges as a didactic strategy to complement the theoretical teaching of computer networks by allowing students to physically and visually observe the behavior of different communication structures. The methodology was based on the development of two functional prototypes: one designed to represent the star topology through centralized control logic, and another intended to simulate the ring topology through a sequential transmission process between nodes. The results showed that the system clearly represented the flow of information, the dependence on a central node in the star topology, and the sequential circulation of data in the ring topology. In addition, the prototype proved to be a low-cost, replicable, and relevant tool for strengthening skills in basic electronics, embedded programming, and network architecture. It is concluded that the integration of physical resources into the teaching-learning process supports the understanding of abstract concepts, promotes active learning, and contributes to the development of practical skills in technology and engineering students.
