Abstract

This research was conducted from the perspective of positive psychology, in order to describe the de-gree of psychological well-being, according to age, sex, marital status, occupation, time and type of employment relationship, presenting teachers of a Private University District of Santa Marta, Colom-bia. We worked with a population of 480 teachers and a representative sample of 192 (109 men and 83 women), aged from over 29 years older than 46, all linked through their work in three modes (91 CT, MT 9, and 92 CAT ) with participating univer-sity they were administered the Psychological Well-being Scale Ryff (1989), adapted to Spanish popula-tion by Diaz et al (2006). The data were processed using SPSS software 18.0v. The results indicate that teachers have low levels of psychological well-being in four of the seven scales measuring test: autonomy (9.9%), Environment Domain (9.4%), personal growth (15.6%) and purpose in life (12%), but with high levels of psychological well-being in two scales: self-acceptance (14.6%) and positive relations (13.5%). No significant correlations were found by gender or by bonding time, but by type of relationship to the scale of self-acceptance. The authors conclude that teachers are at probable risk of “psychological distress”, so recommend the de-sign and implementation of wellness programs and improving the quality of working life for teachers.
