Characterization of a Saharan dust event over the southwestern Iberian Peninsula
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this project was aimed at studying an event of air mass intrusion of North African over the Southwestern Iberian Peninsula with atmospheric particulate matter during the 20th and December 26th of 2007. This required the implementation of a protocol based on the calculation of back trajectories, satellite imagery and evaluation of average levels of PM-10 monitoring stations of air quality. The results for the period of study identified the occurrence of the episode of air masses intrusion from North Africa, which generated high records of PM- 10 in selected monitoring stations in the province of Huelva, reporting the highest hourly average for the 162.7 µg/m3 in CAM station for the day December 21th of 2007, and exceeds 50 µg/m3 set in current regulations.
