Abstract

La Guajira, a territory located on the northern border between Colombia and Venezuela, throughout history various cultures have occupied this territory, processes such as the colony, the republic, trade, mining, and migrations; thus, configuring a territory of cultural exchanges that show its hybrid and diverse character. The present work is a reflection on their hybridization processes through the analysis of cartographic compositions, understood as representations that interconnect sets of ideas about a territory, allowing to abstract hybrid characteristics, since, at present, society and culture are the result of endless transculturation, of internal and dynamic exchanges, since territorial processes could exist in the form of syncretism. It comes to the concept of the hybrid in the key of multiculturalism, which can lead us to understanding, acceptance and coexistence with the "other", the heterogeneous.
